How to Get Started

Hello fellow Illumineers!
Thanks for checking out my site. If you’re wondering how to begin your Disney Lorcana journey, this page will guide you through each phase, from learning the basics to becoming a confident player.

Phase 1: Learning

Disney Lorcana can feel a little overwhelming at first, with many rules, keywords, and interactions. But don’t worry, everyone starts somewhere!

A great place to begin is the official Ravensburger YouTube tutorials. They explain the basics clearly and visually:

If you prefer hands-on learning, visit one of your local stores and request a demo session. Most shops are more than happy to teach beginners!

Phase 2: Liking

Once you’ve learned the basics, the excitement kicks in. You’ll start to enjoy how characters interact, how classifications work together, and how every game feels different.

This is also where you figure out if the game is for you. I personally love Lorcana, but I understand it may not click with everyone. What matters is that you gave it a try!

If you enjoy the gameplay, welcome aboard, Lorcana often becomes more than a game. It becomes a hobby.

Phase 3: Deck Building

Now comes one of the most enjoyable steps: building your deck.

Option 2: Build From Bulk

You can try building a deck from donated commons/uncommons, but this is not ideal for beginners. Without experience, it’s much harder to create a balanced deck, so starter decks are still the recommended starting point.

Phase 4: Playing

This is where the real fun begins. Go out and play!

• Casual Games
  • Visit stores offering demo sessions or join local Facebook groups to find friendly games.
• Local Events
  • You can join shop events even with just a Starter Deck. Don’t worry about competitiveness yet, focus on learning, playing, and having fun.
  • Starter Deck tournaments are especially great for beginners.

Remember:
Mistakes happen, and losses are normal. Every game teaches you something new!

Phase 5: Upgrading

By now, you should understand the fundamentals and know what kind of playstyle you prefer.

This is the stage where you can:

• Explore meta decks
• Upgrade your starter deck
• Try different playstyles
• Study the current season’s format

Before investing heavily in a deck, do some research to make sure the deck suits you. I’ll be posting meta guides soon!

Phase 6: Collecting

As your love for Lorcana grows, so will your collection. This phase is where you might start:

• Chasing your favourite characters
• Trading with others
• Collecting Enchanted or promo cards
• Opening boosters “for fun” (dangerous but exciting!)

Booster packs can be addictive, the thrill of pulling an Enchanted or higher rarity card is real. Some players prefer:

• Loose boosters
• A full booster box (24 packs)
• A full case (4 boxes)
• Or simply buying singles they need

Remember:
Collecting can get expensive. It’s perfectly okay to set a budget. You don’t need every card to enjoy Lorcana.

Phase 7: Mastery

This is where all your experience, knowledge, and skill come together. You’ll learn to:

• Evaluate your opponent’s strategy
• Predict gameplay patterns
• Adapt mid-game
• Build and fine-tune competitive decks
• Win events (maybe even Store Championships or DLCs!)
• Help newer players learn the game

By this point, you’re not only a strong player, you’re part of the growing Lorcana community. But remember, mastery never ends. Every new set brings new mechanics and new ways to grow.
